What a crazy night of racing this last weekend at the Devils Bowl Speedway this last weekend. We arrived at the track at 5: 00 to nice sunny weather with a strong wind out of the north.
When entering the gate after getting our pit passes we were giving a sheet stating the this would be the last race before they cut the winners share by 33% from now on. We had 15 cars in the pits for the nights race.
The track looked good and smooth yet seemed to be getting a little dry slick as we headed out for our heat race. We started inside second row per the line up that’s based on the points system.
At the drop of the green flag we all took off and by the time we came out of turn 2 we had moved into second place. We were right as the track had slicked off and the top was the only way around and we took the checkered flag still in second.
That would start us outside second row in the feature. We made a number of changes to the car as the track was dry slick from top to bottom then headed out for our feature. At the drop of the green flap we took off and were ran into by the pole sitter hitting the left hand side of our car.
That ended up being a big crash on the front straight away and took out 6 cars in the field. We stopped on the back straight away and looked over the car and we had a bent wheel & steering link but looked ok to race.
Then we lined up and tried again. On this start we all took off with no problem and were running third right were we started coming out of turn 2. Then on lap 3 we broke our power steering line and shot fluid all over inside the car but we kept going till lap 8 were we pulled off.
Just as we pulled off the race leader crashed into the back straight away fence so we rushed into the pits and cleaned up the mess and replaced the line just in time to tag the back of the field.
On the restart the car was good but they had cut the race to 15 laps so it was going to be tough to get to the front. We passed a 2 cars and were working to pass what we thought was 4th place when the checkered flag flew so we ended up 5th. We thought!
At the pay window the said we were 8th as we were a lap down as they counted the lap that the red flag came out??? First time we had ever heard of such a thing but it is what it is?
We did how ever leave with our car in good shape minus some bolt on parts and also with the Devils Bowl points lead so not a bad night over all.
Again we would like to say thank you to all out fans and friends that stopped by to say hi and remind you to please support our great sponsors.
Oh and one more thing. You can see all of this by checking out our video links at www.lang14.com thanks to Keith at Pushin the Cushion as they put a in car camera in the car for the night and got some great shots.
Next up is back to some ASCS racing at RPM or Waco this Friday then Abilene on Saturday. Hope to see you there!
